A Ministry to the Homeless & Needy
Tucson, Arizona
Hope of Glory Ministries is dedicated to helping the homeless and needy people of Tucson and Pima County, Arizona. Our first call is to exhibit
the love of Christ by our attitude and service, and then to see that Christ is formed in them through presenting the Gospel. We intend to provide an inner-city shelter facility with on-site services, The Hope Center, for the housing, teaching, and restoring of Tucson’s most precious resource–its men, women and children.
News! We are pleased to announce that we are participating in the Jim Click Raffle Benefiting Tucson Charities. With your $25 contribution you could win an all electric 2012 Nissan LEAF SL. 100% of these proceeds will enable us to keep serving the poor and needy of Tucson. (click here for more details)
TO THE CARING PEOPLE OF TUCSON: Meet Mercy Center!
We know you are aware of the huge needs of those who have found themselves homeless, principally due to the “down economy.” These folks’ needs---added to those of the ever increasing chronic homeless population--have made the streets of Tucson, Arizona, a place of great turmoil and hopelessness. As we have been called to minister to this population, we clearly see why we must persevere to be both His hands and His heart to the downcast. The scripture reference we carry on all of our literature, Col. 1:27, has become so much more alive and relevant, “Christ in you, the hope of Glory.”
One of the most pressing needs in our community is for a homeless medical respite center.
We have seen too many individuals discharged from hospitals to the streets who are in need of several days recuperation, wounds tended to and countless other issues not met by the crowded local shelters. There are a few beds for these folks in two of the three major shelters, but without dedicated medical staffing. We have been looking at “best practices” in other states for several years and there are solutions to this problem.
In addition to 24/7 staffing by qualified medical personnel, the respite program would provide referrals for medical care, mental health care, and substance abuse services, as well as self-care planning and education, health education, patient support groups, transportation, and linkages to income, insurance, and housing benefits. Needless to say, the 24/7 time spent with these transitional patients will be a great opportunity to share the Gospel with them. We are dialoguing with two major health providers and they have indicated that they would provide the medical personnel, and we have several qualified medical people waiting to volunteer at the facility.
The main goals of the program are to:
- Reduce the length of stay and related hospital cost for homeless patients by providing them access to post-discharge care in a safe and secure environment.
- Reduce readmissions and emergency room visits for this patient population.
- Reduce the number of patients who remain homeless by arranging for transition from recuperative care to other programs or appropriate housing opportunities.
Please pray with us on this--IT'S TIME!
